When you are looking to replace worn mandolin machine heads be sure to get a quality set so as to assure you have smooth gear action. Also, carefully clean your machine heads first, before you decide to buy. If your machine heads are hard to turn after a few years, they might just need a good cleaning. Try this: with the machine heads closed, carefully oil with light precision mechanics oil at the shaft or gears. With the machine heads open, carefully oil the mechanical parts.

When your mandolin bridge needs replacing it is comforting to know these are available online and easy to reinstall. Mandolins with non-adjustable bridges must be sanded and carved in order to lower the action at the bridge. Bridges with thumbwheels are considerably easier to adjust. The thumbwheels are used to raise or lower the top portion of the bridge thereby raising or lowering the string height above the frets.
