Many of the ideas for Gibson mandolins are derived from techniques of the builders of Stradivarius violins. From the least to the most expensive models of today, the differences between Gibson mandolins are essentially cosmetic. The “A” is the same body as the “F” model, but without the scroll. Some famous mandolinists of our time have offered their name to various models of Gibson mandolins, including Sam Bush, Doyle Lawson, and Alan Bibey.

Although the Gibson company is most famous for its guitars, it has gained a high reputation for building quality mandolins as well.
